Calendar September 2012

The traveller sees what he sees. The tourist sees what he has come to see.

Hi everyone! September 27th is the world tourism day. Along with the calendar i wanted to write a bit about traveling Vs touring. Starting with an age old comparison, if touring is expected to be like a blooming flower,  traveling could only be compared to the bumpy roots (expectations irrelevant) Old comparison yes, but it literally fits with the characteristics. A tourist would have a “plan” fixed, from the shelter to the destination. Expecting “magic” to happen throughout the journey. Waiting to accept only pleasure, and be agitated at even the tiniest stumble stone. Hoping that the tour that they embark upon, would serve as the savior to their dull existence and be "that historic break" to their mechanical life. Hence nothing less than a seventh heaven is expected from a tour. Nothing wrong with the expectation part, but something that a tourist largely fails to understand is that, the real seeing is not about visiting a new place, but is something, from within their selves.

On the other hand, “ a traveler” a soul that has accepted the journey itself as its home. Neither does a traveler cling on to a map, nor is he hesitant to merge with the spirit of the situation thrown at him. Clumsy, rough, feisty, happy, lucky, magical, a traveler naturally comes to enjoy the moments from within.

I believe there is no better way to embrace life and actually do some living, than traveling. To fly high with no destination in mind. Wouldn’t it be legendary to study the mysterious world that we have been dropped into, and shape our thoughts with some real experiences, rather than trying to read the life and thoughts of others through some random books?  No complaints about reading, but if "travel" is the book that we read, wouldn't it be larger than life?

To embark on such a travel is my dream. And i hope some of you are on the same page as i am.

About the photo, to anyone from the southern part of India, this image is nothing new. There are numerous pictures of the same kind, of our gorgeous Mahabalipuram shore temple. But there is a reason why it is being captured so many times. Every single time, this scenery beautifies the picture and every picture taken will gratify its beauty.
And i am too weak to overlook its sheer beauty, hence here I am bearing one of my versions of the historic “Shore temple”. And to me, the little bird effortlessly completes the whole picture.

Thanks for stopping by :)

 Calendar - August 2012

friendship isn't a big thing... its a million little things..!

This photo was shot at one of the lil laundry locales in chennai, a small stream which gifts tens of washermen, their livelihood, as it tardily flows..

That day, initially it was just a mundane piece of scenery when i stopped by, and to add to my hard luck, those very few people who usually work there, were also scarcely seen, not working , only with a few lazy buffaloes grazing in a distant piece of greenery.

Just when i thought to myself, why did i ever come for a photo to this dull location, a group of kids of the washermen arrived on the scene. Before my eyes could follow, they jumped right into the stream, and started the show, only for me to realise how lively that place actually is.

No money, no fancy parties, no gadgets, no branded clothes to brag about, no cozy dine-outs, yet, what i saw there was undoubtedly, the most fun-filled hangouts ever.. all they had were their friends, and boy, did they know to enjoy. They pranked, pushed, fought, held, hooted and somersaulted. It looked like they had zero number of things to worry about, as though the whole world was theirs. It was pure enjoyment with no fake emotions tagged.

There was this unmissable, dose of care and closeness among them, the way they walked with their shoulders pinned, how they pushed each other in to the water, yet watched their backs, and raised each other back on feet, six of them sharing from one split toffee, and much more, smiley moments. For sometime, their happiness naturally energised my brain cells. While taking photos, i realised that, behind my camera, along with the shrunk eyes looking through the small view finder, there were also these smiling lips. I got reminded that happiness is only what we make it. And when there is a friend by the side, always ready, waiting with a pinch of salt to season, no place is tasteless or lifeless.
P.S - Also learned that a little patience would always yield. Had i walked back thinking what i thought, i would have missed this photo and mainly the experience.

THIS IS DEDICATED TO ALL MY FRIENDS :)

June Calendar
The ocean, multiple to a blinding oneness

Good life people! This months calendar features the mighty calm ocean, glistering on a silent dawn.
Made for the World Oceans Day, 8th of June.
The mightier the ocean, the deeper its secrets. Right from, how the lands came in to being to the little plankton afloat, the ocean knows it all.
Everything about the ocean is amazement. It shakes me to think that, the deep dark of an ocean with infinite mysteries buried within, could once have been a huge mountain, or vast plateau, with no water at all.
Evolution formed the oceans, but would you dare to imagine evolution changing the site plan of the oceans now, once again?
When near the ocean, with every wave touching our feet, the ocean is giving away a little something of those secrets that it knows, hoping for us to understand. But this is where god's design comes in, to keep the nature and man inside one sphere, and yet to keep them both very distant, so that, neither understands the other, making life uncertain and interesting all at the same time!

Let green be, for there is no planet B!
                                                                                            Calendar - May'12

Hey everybody. Our calendar screams green this month. Recently came across the idea of, a day called, fascination of plants day, which is to be launched for the first time on the 18th of May'12 by the European Plant Science Organization. I then thought, this would be a perfect theme to publish in my calendar. Being a huge plant lover, it would be very me, to dwell on this theme.

We inhale oxygen and exhale carbon-di-oxide. Kinder garten science has taught this to everyone of us. But unfortunately, the science that has taught us the fact, has not taught us the sensibility to try and preserve nature's balance.

Except for the utter necessities, no man has a right to destroy a tree unless he plants two in substitute. Have we ever realized that by destroying a colony of trees, we not only destroy the trees, but a whole Eco-system dependent on them. With this fast rate of depeletion of plants and trees, the whole chemical equation of the nature supporting the mankind is being altered. The sooner we realize, and act, the better it is.

It is never late to go green! I am not going to propagate ideas to go green. We all know hundreds of them already. All i am insisting is that, the knowledge is not enough, action is.

Let us plant as much trees as possible in our lifetime. The joy of touching a fruit that is gifted from the little seed that we sowed years back is priceless. It is not going to cost us a fortune, but the benefits we reap is immeasurable.

Let trees live, for you to live. Love them back, for they have been loving mankind from the times of evolution.

For those of us movie buffs who watched Avatar's Pandora with awed open mouths, we all know deep down in our hearts that it was our mother earth being depicted there. It was not an imaginary fantasy world created, it is very true and living in your own backyard. We just have to open our eyes and look around, be silent and listen. Every creation in nature is a wonder that can never be fully understood by man, leave alone recreating.

People, we cannot produce oxygen from thin air, but trees do it seamlessly, so why not plant millions of trees and breathe happily ever after?!!

This photo of the water plant was captured at Pichavaram, the second largest Mangrove forest in the world, located in Tamilnadu, India.
